Hengeyokai Information
This is not a suggestion or a mechanic. This is something I wrote for another bleach site that is being posted for the 4 Hengeyokai characters on this site for ideas, lore, etc... I'm rather proud of the casting systems inherit to this prestige class, but this wouldn't work for our RPG so please don't take it as a mechanical suggestion.*
*Not that I'd oppose such a thing.
For those who care:
Reiatsu = Stamina (except on our site Stamina = GP, not half of GP)
Connection = GP
Zanjutsu and Hakuda = Strength (it was a stat, not a skill)
Kidou = Spirit
----
Note that this post is a written chapter so the information here is all from the point of view of a single character. The hengeyokai prestige class allows characters who are themselves hengeyokai, half-hengeyokai or under possession by a hengeyokai to unlock particular abilities and powers the race are known for while still being a shinigami. Shinigami hengeyokai are a bit of an oddity: usually shinigami are only human. But its not entirely without precedent. Shinigami or hollow yokai appear when a yokai acts human enough during their life (or gains strong enough bonds with a human) may be mis-categorized in their afterlife as a human being and granted the position and powers of a shinigami or hollow. They can also appear when a yokai devours and syncs with a human soul, or when they live in their human body too long after an extended tsuki (or simply don't leave said body and then pass on). They could even be humans themselves who are half-hengeyokai or who bonded with the soul of a hengeyokai before or after their death on earth. All in all there are countless ways this oddity could occur--each and every instance of a hengeyokai entering the illustrious courts of seireitai seems to be unique and special enough to be considered its own case. And although such cases are rare, in a world where men and women can live for hundreds of years its not uncommon for a solid handful of such beings to exist at any given point in time.

Re: Hengeyokai Information
Pure Hengeyokai:
"Pure"
hengeyokai are those who were born as yokai and, for some reason, wound
up in Soul Society after they died or joined the human afterlife
through some other means. Usually hengeyokai have a deeper innate
connection with the spiritual world than humans. They are usually more
used to manipulating reiatsu and seeing "strange" beings such as hollows
and shinigami fight amongst one another back on earth. They are used
to being ignored, feared and even hunted by humans. They usually lose
most of their past powers and bonds when they enter seireitei--even a
three or four tailed fox can find himself back down to one when he wakes
up on the dusty roads of some far off district of soul society.
Pure
hengeyokai have the largest selection of spirit powers available to
them, but must follow their taboo or risk losing all their spiritual
power.
Half-Hengeyokai:
Half-Hengeyokai
are usually the sons and daughters of a hengeyokai and human couple
whose yokai side has awakened itself enough to allow it to manipulate
spiritual energy. Other times they are a form of possessed hengeyokai
who have completely merged with their inner spirit and become one
being. They are often outcasts of society if such a power isn't kept
under check. In today's 'less-spiritual' times, such beings are often
seen as incredibly lucky or unlucky with an air of exoticism and even
mysticism about them. They are quite common, but they usually die off
and reincarnate as full humans before their power manifests (as it
usually takes 100 years or more for a hengeyokai's power to begin to
show itself).
Half-Hengeyokai have a lower selection of spirit
powers than full hengeyokai. However, if a taboo is broken they will
only lose access to particular hengeyokai powers and can still function
as spiritual entities capable of wielding their reiatsu.
Possessed Hengeyokai:
Quite
often in the yokai world a demon will use the now illegal and forbiddon
art of Tsuki (possession) to reincarnate itself (often in the body of
an unblessed child). Doing such an act requires devouring the soul of
the body the demon now inherits (if the possession is permanent), or
simply eating a portion of it and residing in the spiritual cavity.
This is done quite often when a yokai is injured or needs to rest for a
decade or two. Hengeyokai are sometimes also sealed into humans against
their will, but this is rare as shrines and rocks are more permanent
solutions to getting these spirits out of one's hair. Sometimes special
rituals are performed that bring a willing spirit and willing host into
a symbiotic relationship with one another, forming a bond similiar to
that of a shingiami and zanpaktou. Although this art is frowned upon,
if both participants are willing it is not forbidden in the hengeyokai
world. All of these examples create a being known as "Hengeyokai-Tsuki"
or "Hengeyokai Posessed."
A hengeyokai possessed is a human who
somehow has a hengeyokai residing in or along with its soul. Hengeyokai
possessed get an extremely limited and seemingly sporadic access to
certain powers but need not follow any taboo. They cannot transform and
are the most shunned of all three races. Those who have a hengeyokai
whose personality, goals or overall alignment clash with that of the
posessor may find themselves at odds with what is slowly becoming a part
of their very own soul. This creates a sort of spiritual tension that
tends to turn off people around you if not outright cause them to
immediately dislike you. Furthermore, techniques dealing with the
manipulation of the physical body are very limited. So, for example, a
possessed hengeyokai cannot transform.

Re: Hengeyokai Information
Any hengeyokai character, irregardless of race, receives Chikuryoku equal to their total raises to Connection after becoming a hengeyokai. Full hengeyokai also receive spirit points equal to 75% of their connection before getting this prestige class. Half get Chikuryoku equal to 50% of their connection before getting this prestige class. Posessed get 25% of their connection before taking this prestige class. This stat functions in a way similar to a mixture of kidou and reiatsu for spirit powers. The stat is lowered in order to obtain access to new powers and abilities. But characters also spend Chikuryoku, not reiatsu, when using their powers.
So, for example, if a character's "Transform" power cost 500 points to equip and 100 points to use, they would lower their Chikuryoku posted each week they had that power equipped by 500 points. So if they have 1000 points and equipped the 500 point Transform power, they would post their stats as such:
Each time they used that power, they would lose 100 Chikuryoku of their 500 available that week. Chikuryoku function in the same way as reiatsu with regards to spending them to activate spirit powers. They are replenished at the same rate and may be replenished with the same methods as replenishing reiatsu with the exception of items. Items that replenish reiatsu must be specifically marked on your sheet as an item that replenishes Chikuryoku in order to replenish these points. These items no longer replenish reiatsu unless re-equipped to do so in another week.

Re: Hengeyokai Information
Spirit Powers are divided into 4 technique categories. These powers can be obtained by spending an appropriate amount of points for your particular species of hengeyokai. These categories are Tsuchijutsu (earth techniques), Hitsujutsu (animal techniques), Shinjutsu (heaven techniques) and genjutsu (false reality techniques).
Hitsujustu – (Animal Techniques)
Hitsujutsu represent techniques that herald back to a more primal nature from which hengeyokai come. These are most often techniques that modify the user's body. Possessed Hengeyokai may never obtain Hitsujutsu.
Hitsujustu – (Animal Techniques)
Hitsujutsu represent techniques that herald back to a more primal nature from which hengeyokai come. These are most often techniques that modify the user's body. Possessed Hengeyokai may never obtain Hitsujutsu.
- Hitsujutsu:
Hitsujutsu has 3 varieties: Animal Anatomy, Animal Senses and Animal Transformations.
[Spoiler=Animal Anatomy Tiers]
Tier 1:
Tails - Get a tail. Passive. Costs 200 points. Not a weapon.
Jaw - Get a bite attack. Passive. Costs 500 points. Use hakuda.
Spike - Get a spike attack. Passive. Costs 500 points. Must make sense mechanically (like a porcupine or quillfish, or possibly a creature who obtained spikes with some other ability even if aesthetically). You may pay 100 points to "shoot" these spikes at enemies.
Claws - Get a claw attack. Passive. Costs 500 points. Use hakuda.
Wings - Get wings. Requires an animal form with wings. Cannot fly with wings without the "flight" attribute under animal adaptivity. Costs 400 points.
Tier 2:
Extra Tail - Get an extra tail. Requires tails. Passive. Costs 200 points. Maximum 4 for most hengeyokai. Maximum 8 for kitsune. Half cost for kitsune.
Manipulative Tail - Can use tail like an extra hand. Requires tail. Passive. Costs 400 points. Half cost for neko. Requires a pretty long tail. Can use tail like a weapon in some ways with reiatsu transfer and manipulative tail.
Strength - Get high pressured bites you can use for clamping with your bite attacks or gives you stronger claw attacks. Requires jaw or bite. Active. Costs 400 points to equip, 100 points to use for every three rounds you "clench" onto the target.
Sharp - Get sharper claws, teeth or spikes. Requires jaw, bite or spike. Passive. Costs 500 points. Half costs for neko (claws), or rats and rabbits (teeth).
Reiatsu Transfer - Lets you pay reiatsu to power your natural attacks. Requires any tier 1. Passive and Active. Costs 1000 Chikuryoku to equip. Pay 1,000 reiatsu to increase an attack +1 rank. The attack is done as though from a zanpaktou while equipped.
Tier 3:
Drain - Get the ability to drain reiatsu (or reiatsu that can turn into Chikuryoku) with your natural attack. Active. Requires bite and sharp or strength or some other form of increased natural attack. Costs 1000 to equip, X(25) to use. Drains X(50) per round you remain equipped. You only get the reiatsu at the end of the round, but spend at the beginning of the first round. Staying stuck on the target allows you to drain for up to X rounds (you only spend the Chikuryoku cost to use once). Costs half as much to equip for Bats.
Poison - Get poison claws, spikes or teeth. Active. 500 to equip. 500 to use each time. Choose when taking the ability what type of poison it is (numbing, blinding, etc...). Power based on your total spirit points versus your opponent's reiatsu. Requires jaw, spike or bite with sharp.
Extend Tail - Can extend the size and basic shape of your tail (usually up to around 3 foot). 1000 points to equip, 200 points to use. Tanuki and Kitsunei can take and use for half price. Requires manipulative tail.
Shikai Transfer - Can transfer shikai abilities into natural attacks. 2000 points to equip. 200 points to use (per round). Requires Reiatsu transfer and natural attack (tier 1).
Tier 4:
Bankai Transfer - Can transfer limited bankai abilities into natural attacks. Requires Shikai transfer. Can only transfer abilities that function when you hit a target. Active. Costs 2000 to equip and 1000 to use (per round).
Transmute Tail/Wings - Can change the material composition of your tail or wings and increased size manipulation. Requires Extend Tail and Tail OR wings (no extend wings). You can change your tail to a size roughly the size of your body and change its material to any material you have an elemental affinity with via the Shinjutsu or Hitsujutsu spirit powers (See tier 1). Transmute wings lets you just use elemental affinity via the Shinjutsu spirit powers. Costs 2000 to equip and 1000 to use. Half all costs for kitsune or winged.
Alternative Attack Option - Lets you use Zanjutsu instead of hakuda with claw or tail attacks for determining if you hit or miss (still use hakuda for base damage). Passive. Costs 1000 points, plus 1000 for each tier you skip to reach tier four if you don't have any techniques from tier 2 or 3. You may skip tiers to reach this technique, unlike other abilities. Usagi may use Hohou instead of zanjutsu or hakuda for their legs, need not pay to skip tiers and may take this without taking any tier 1 abilities.
- Animal Adaptivity:
Tier 1:
Improved Sight - 400 to equip. You can see further and more clearly than better humans, as well as see in the dark better than normal humans. Free for birds.
Improved Balance - 400 to equip. You have better balance than normal humans. Free for cats.
Improved Hearing - 400 to equip. You can hear better than normal humans. Free for bats.
Vocal Intensification - 400 to equip. You can talk more loudly or softly than normal humans. Free for dogs or parrots.
Four Legged Running - 1000 to equip. You can run on all fours exceptionally fast in any form, getting a +1 rank boost to hohou while running in such a position. You can't hold anything while your running like this. This boost is cumulative with all others. Free for cheetahs. Only for 4 legged animal types.
Digging - 400 to equip. You can dig a hole without any tools in a relatively short amount of time. Free for vermin type.
Swimming - 400 to equip. You can swim like a fish. Free for fish or other aquatic animals.
Flight - Grants flight to hengeyokai whose natural form has wings. Works only in a form with wings. Passive. In form without usable wings, allows user to "float" slowly. Costs 2000 points to equip. Uses hohou. Half price for birds.
Tier 2:
Tremor Sense - 600 to equip. Requires digging or improved balance. You can feel the movements of things around you through the earth itself. Half price for moles, etc...
Instant Burrowing - 1600 to equip. Requires digging. You can burrow into the earth exceptionally fast.
Super Smell - 800 to equip. 1200 to equip if you have no tier 1 (you may skip tier 1). You can smell exceptionally well. Free for blood hounds or pigs. Half price for other candids.
Eagle Eyes - 600 to equip. Requires improved sight. You can "zoom" in and see exceptionally far away with your eyes.
Super Sonic Hearing - 600 to equip. Requires improved hearing. You can hear super sonic waves.
Nightvision - 600 to equip. Requires improved vision.
Super-Sonic Vocals - 600 to equip. Requires vocal intensification. You can make supersonic vocals. Free for bats.
Sub Sonic Vocals - 600 to equip. Requires vocal intensification. You can make subsonic vocals. Especially good for talking when you only want one person to hear you.
Mimicry - 1000 to equip. Requires vocal intensification. You can perfectly impersonate another person's voice without genjutsu and "throw your voice". Free for kenku if they have the prerequisites.
Tier 3:
Infared/UV Vision - 1000 to equip. Requires nightvision. You can see UV or infared. Pay another 500 to see both.
Echo Location - 1000 to equip. Requires super-sonic vocal snad super sonic hearing. You can move and "see" using echo location, like a bat.
- Animal Transformations:1030:
All transformation requires a medium that can be placed on your head (usually a specific type of leaf). While transformed, those extremely close to you can usually tell who you are via your eyes. Anyone who knows who you really are can also see the medium on your forehead and usually remove it (otherwise the medium kinda sticks to your forehead even if your shaken upside down).
Tier 1:
Basic Animal Transformation - 1000 to equip, 100 to use. You can change into your natural animal form via a poof of smoke or dust.
Partial Animal Transformation - 1000 to equip, 100 to use. You can change into a "hybrid" form that is half animal and half human (like Komamura).
Personal Animal Speech - 500 to equip. Passive. You can speak the language of your particular race of animal in any form.
Tier 2:
Greater Animal Transformation - 1000 to equip, 200 to use. You can transform into any animal form, except animals larger than a human or smaller than a rabbit.
Global Animal Speech - 500 to equip. Requires personal animal speech. You can speak to any animal and understand all animal languages. Note that animal speech is mostly empathetic and surprisingly vague in most cases.
Tier 3:
Universal Animal Transformation - 1000 to equip, 400 to use. You can transform into any animal form.
Tsuchijutsu – (Earth Techniques)
Tsuchijutsu represent techniques that modify the physical world around the hengeyokai. These are most often techniques concerned with nature and the natural world.
- Tsuchijutsu:
Tsuchijutsu is divided into base elements you must increase separately. Each element taken beyond tier 2 (rank 1) forces you to choose two appropriate "banned elements" that you cannot EVER take beyond tier 1 (rank 3). Only one element may be taken to rank 3 (tier 1) or beyond.
Each player may take as many ranks in the first tier of each element as they wish.
Note that you may NOT advance a second tier to a level above that of a lower tier in the same element.
Element techniques use kidou stat in the same form as kidou do.
[Spoiler=Tier 1]
Tier 1: Elemental Creation
Cost to Equip: 200 to equip per level.
Cost to Use: 100 per half-square foot, maximum 100/rank.
Max Ranks: You may take this 6 times.
Effect: Each time you take this, you increase the intensity and decrease the cost of creating the raw base of an element. Choose the element when you take this ability. Each rank of this technique lets you create 6" of an element. Furthermore, at rank 6 you may create 6 square inches of elemental "material" for free. You may use this ability a number of times per round equal to your total ranks in this tier.
- Tier 2:
Tier 1: Elemental Manipulation
Cost to Equip: 200 to equip per level.
Cost to Use: 100 per half-square foot, maximum 100/rank.
Max Ranks: You may take this 6 times.
Effect: Each time you take this, you increase the amount of element you have created via Elemental Creation (tier 1 Shinjutsu) that can be manipulated into any shape or form you desire. Elements may only be condensed down to 3" before it becomes non-effective. So you may condense 3" square worth of fire into a 1/16" thick rapier blade and still do damage with it as per appropriate. But you couldn't spread six square inches worth of fire into a blanket 1" x 3' x 3' AND keep it an effective weapon.
- Tier 3:
Tier 1: Elemental Mastery
Cost to Equip: 200 to equip per level.
Cost to Use: 100 per half-square foot, maximum 100/rank.
Max Ranks: You may take this 6 times.
Effect: Each time you take this, you increase the amount of an element you can manipulate that you made through another ability/kai/feat/tech/kidou, or the amount of an element you can manipulate per round that another character made. You may only manipulate the elemental attacks of those with less connection than your Chiryouku.
- Element List:1030:
Void/Darkness may only be taken through pact feats as it is extraordinarily rare and powerful, with the ability to negate and separate other elements at will.
Fire: Represents fire and heat. Opposes Water and Earth.
Water: Represents water. Can also represent ice with the same restrictions. Opposes Earth and Fire.
Air: Represents air. Opposes Earth and Metal.
Earth: Represents the earth, such as rocks. Opposes Air and Water.
Light: Represents light in its purest form, including pure chiryoku. Opposes Metal and Wood.
Metal: Represents metal, including weapons. Opposes Water and Fire.
Wood: Represents plant life and derivatives. Opposes Fire and Electricity
Eletricity: Represents electricity and thunder. Opposes Wood and Water.
Shinjutsu – (Heaven Techniques)
Shinjutsu represent techniques that modify the non-physical world. They include abilities that deal with ethereal subjects like reiatsu and kami.
- Shinjutsu:
Shinjutsu are unique in that they are the least 'practical' of the four techniques. They are rarely, if at all, used in combat. They can only be learned by pure hengeyokai and represent the utmost and strongest connections with Chikushudo and the spirits of the planes. The rituals commonly last hours or even days and have prerequisites that can make performing these rituals quite literally a once-in-a-lifetime event for those without the means. Three varieties of rituals exist, as listed below.
The Myobujtusu Arts, also known as the Sacred Arts, which are performed with utmost care and concern and represent the holiest of actions a hengeyokai can ever perform. They produce powerful effects, but are largely situational if not entirely impractical. They can only be performed once every two months, due to the high cost and rarity of the materials used in the rituals.
The Shinjutsu Arts, or the Heavenly-Common Arts, are those performed even daily by some hengeyokai. They are nothing special, but still important to the culture of the hengeyokai as tools and traditional practice. They can be performed only once every two weeks due to the strain these rituals cause the hengeyokai that perform them.
The Yamido Arts, or the Darkness-Realm Arts, are the forbidden Shinjutsu. They interfere with the celestial heavens, usually offering some form of sacrifice or ripping a soul from its path on the kharmic wheel. They are considered forbidden among both the Kami and Hengeyokai. Performing them can attract these aggressive spirits like a flame to a moth--there are several spirits who keep tabs on those who know of these forbidden and ultimately potentially destructive arts and do everything they can to ensure those who attempt them are strictly punished. It should be noted that these aren't truly "evil" techniques. They are just seen as disruptive to the spirit world as a whole. They can only be performed once every two months, due to a mixture of the rarity of materials required to perform the rituals and the risk the rituals carry to the user due to their illegal status.
Rituals need not be equipped. They take long enough to cast that you can assume you can "equip" it in order to cast the ritual and "re-equip" your set of hengeyokai powers once the ritual is over (or interrupted/canceled).
Note: To equip a ritual, one must use an enormous amount of their their Chiryoku during the ritual. Although getting back Chiryoku during the ritual is possible, as the Chiryoku is drained slowly over the portion of the entire ceremony, stopping to receive more than triple the cost of the ritual in Chiryoku back into your supply will cause the ritual to fail. This does mean, however, that these rituals can be performed even if you have less Chiyroku than the total price to equip plus the price to use the ritual, so long as you don't need to replenish your Chiryoku more than twice during the ritual.
[spoiler=Rituals]
[spoiler=Myobujutsu]
You must use the "Purify" Shinjutsu to cast any of these rituals.
Name: Purification
Cost to Use: 1,500
Time to Cast: 60 minutes
Effect: This lets you further purify an area, removing all static effects and taint from the region (such as the effect that makes it more difficult to use reiatsu in Heuco Mundo). The area affected cannot be larger than 500 feet in all directions. Evil spirits will be repelled by the area to some extent, and the area will provide a calm, healing effect while people are within its area. The purification lasts 24 hours.
Name: Divine Focus - Healing
Cost to Use: 1,000
Time to Cast: 30 Minutes
Effect: This ritual increases the effectiveness of any healing effects on the target by 50% for the next hour. You cannot cast this on yourself.
Name: Divine Focus - Will Power
Cost to Use: 1,000
Time to Cast: 15 Minutes
Effect: This ritual breaks the target (not the user) of any mind controlling or mind altering effect, spell, ritual or curse.
Name: Commune with Greater Spirit
Cost to Use: 1,000
Time to Cast: 30 Minutes
Effect: Lets you speak to either your pact target or a greater spiritual being who is willing to speak with you, such as a deity or even a higher ranking Shinigami (Soutaichou, etc...). The being must be aware you can do the ritual and have some focus (a coin, crystal ball, etc...) which they must have on their person to speak with you.
Name: Purify Weapon
Cost to Use: 1,000
Time to Cast: 60 Minutes
Effect: A single weapon becomes purified for 24 hours. The weapon can dispel evil barriers, drive back evil spirits and does more damage to evil structures and enemies hit by the weapon. The weapon becomes slightly more durable and even cleaner.
- Shinjutsu:1030:
Name: Chiyryoku Detection
Cost to Use: 1,000
Time to Cast: 30 Minutes
Effect: Focusing on the identity of an individual and whatever type of reiatsu or chiryoku they had at the time of meeting that individual, you may track down and locate the individual in question. You must cast the ritual while slowly walking in what appears to be a trance. If the individual is more than 30 minutes (walking) distance away from the spot you cast the ritual, you will lose the trail of the individual in question. While in this Chiryoku detection "mode", you become extremely sensitive to Chiryoku signatures around you. You can detect the presence or lack of presence of Chiryoku within a 5 mile radius while using the ritual.
Name: Creation/Sealing
Cost to Use: 200 per leaf; 200 to unseal
Time to Cast: 1 minute per leaf
Effect: This ritual allows you to turn a number of leaves into an item of your choice or lets you seal an item into a leaf to unseal at any later time (for quick storage, hiding, etc...). If a sealed leaf is destroyed, the item unseals itself in a destroyed form. But all leafs (in the case of items that seal into multiple leaves) must be destroyed. You only need to keep 1 leaf to unseal the item again. You need not keep this equipped to unseal leaves. You may NEVER seal items with a soul or spiritual power, including zanpaktou. You may NEVER create items you could not transform into (i.e. those with many moving parts/"complex items"). This includes guns, crossbows, computers, etc...
Items like "Dog", "Plant", etc... cannot be used. You cannot create bags. You cannot seal bags with other items inside them (unless the item allows you to do this). Gigai can be used, but not while 'active'. All items not listed should be assumed to take 20 leaves if the item takes a slot. 10 leaves if it takes a slot and you get (2). 1 leaf if it takes a slot and has (20), etc...- List of Items and Leaf Numbers:
Hair pins/needles/scalpel: 1
Flour pill: 1

Medical Kits: too complex
Division items follow the above rules. Rare items are 1 leaf per slot, 1 leaf per item. If the item comes in multiples, the rule changes as needed (1 leaf=1 item). A rare item leaf takes half the amount of reiatsu per leaf as 3 division items combined (so 2 rare item slots filled with leaves = the same amount as 3 normal or division items). 1 unique item takes 1 leaf and the same amount of reiatsu as 3 normal times.
Name: Pact Affirmation
Cost to Use: 1,000
Time to Cast: 1 hour
Effect: This ritual allows you to confirm the existence of a pact, spiritual or relationship based. This lets you confirm the existence and even abilities of a pact feat. It lets you know who is involved in the pact and even gives you minor insights as to the pact owner's relationship. It also lets you locate the members of the pact and can be used if you are one of the members of the pact to find your partner.
Name: Purification/Corruption
Cost to Use: 1,200
Time to Cast: 30 minutes
Effect: After a 30 minute ritualistic dance, the user can choose to "purify" or "corrupt" an area for a temporary amount of time with positive or negative chiryoku. The effect lasts until the next ritual is cast in the area, or 30 minutes. The next ritual cast must be a Yamido or Myobujutsu, depending on whether or not the area is "tainted" or "purified" respectively. You *must* use this ritual in order to cast a Yamido or Myobujutsu.
Name: Repair
Cost to Use: 500
Time to Cast: 20 Minutes
Effect: Lets you repair damages to a structure or item through the use of magic.
Name: Rift Destruction
Cost to Use: 1,000
Time to Cast: 10 Minutes
Effect: Lets you destroy a planar rift. Rifts bound to an area or item, such as the portals to Dangai in Seireitai, are only closed for 30 minutes.
Name: Rift Detection
Cost to Use: 500
Time to Cast: 30 Minutes
Effect: Upon completion of the ritual, the user knows the location of either the closest portal to a particular deimension or the location of all portals in 5 miles. Another casting at one of these portals will tell the user where it leads.
Name: Rift Opening
Cost to Use: 1,000
Time to Cast: 1 Hour (or more)
Effect: This allows a user to open a planar rift that would otherwise be closed to him or her and use it to travel between the planes.
Name: Ritual Negation
Cost to Use: 500
Time to Cast: 5 minutes
Effect: This ritual cancels any ritual being cast. If you do not have more chiryoku than the target of this effect, you must spend extra Chiryoku to make up the difference. Multiple hengeyokai can cast this ritual to negate the ritual in progress, but each beyond the first only adds half their chiryoku to the amount needed to cancel the ritual in progress.
- Yamido:1030:
You must use the "Corrupt" Shinjutsu to cast any of these rituals.
Name: Taint
Cost to Use: 1,500
Time to Cast: 1 Hour
Effect: For the next 24 hours, the 500 foot radius around the target becomes "tainted". Reiatsu recovers at half the normal rate, and spiritual beings who are not evil recover at half that rate.
Name: Soul Charm
Cost to Use: 5,000
Time to Cast: 2 Hours
Effect: Upon completion of this ritual, you call forth the soul of a recently departed individual or type of spirit (your choice). The spirit breaks through all planar barriers (assuming its willing to do so and has lower reiatsu than your chiryoku). The soul will drift around you only long enough for you to perform another reiatsu. Doing this ritual is illegal from all major spiritual factions and tends to cause enough planar holes to make it pretty easy to track someone who just recently used it...
Name: Soul Bind
Cost to Use: 5,000
Time to Cast: 6 Hours
Effect: Binds a summoned hengeyokai into the spirit and soul of a willing target. If the bind is permanent, the target becomes a possessed-hengeyokai (this takes a feat). If both the hengeyokai soul and target of the ritual were willing and compatible, they may instead become a form of half-hengeyokai. If the target only wants this power temporarily, they gain an effective 5,000 chiryoku (which is semi-permanently deducted from your total chiyroku for the next 24 hours). After 24 hours passes, the ritual ends. The target of this ritual can use hengeyokai powers as though they had 5,000 chiryoku, but only as a possessed hengeyokai. Binding a spirit to an item is also possible, but frowned upon even more than using this ritual in the first place.
Name: Cutting the Ties that Bind
Cost to Use: 5,000
Time to Cast: 1 Hour
Effect: This ritual forcefully cuts a bond between a pact user and the hengeyokai with the pact, or between a posessed hengeyokai and its host. The ritual lasts 1 week. The target need not be willing, but must be bound or otherwise unable to move.
Genjutsu – (False Reality Techniques)
Genjutsu represent techniques that modify the world to make it appear or seem different in some way. They include illusions and shapeshifting abilities.
- Genjutsu:
Genjutsu techniques are literally "false world" techniques that have the ability to alter the world around the user in according to his or her will. To call these "illusions" is often a misnomer--these techniques aren't equivalent to earthly holograms. They quite literally change the world around the hengeyokai. Whether or not these changes are just audible or visual doesn't change the fact these techniques are quite distinct from simple light projection. These techniques create "false realities" by compressing and shaping Chiryoku into forms resembling those of various objects. Furthermore, they may use this energy to take new shapes and forms and, with enough experience, even cause some degree of transformations in their allies. Usually the target goes up in a poof of smoke or light, depending on the style of the hengeyokai.
Genjutsu require a focus. This focus is usually a small natural trinket such as a leaf or feather. The trinket is placed atop the target of the Genjutsu (usually on the forehead for Transform Self/Other). It sticks to the forehead until the transformation is dispelled. It can be removed by the caster or target, or anyone who is close enough to the target of the Genjutsu to recognize their identity. When removed, the transformation is undone.
There are only three powers in the Genjutsu school, however each can get "Seeds" which add to the power's abilities...and cost.
Transform Self
Cost: 250
Cost to Equip: 500
Effect: This allows you to transform your appearance to a small extent. Hair color and style, skin color, eye color, and even visible wounds, scars or tattoos can be added, removed or changed by use of this ability. Odds are, most people can still tell who you are even if you use this ability. Very little can be done with this ability that can't be done with the right equipment (make up, hair dye, tattoo pen, etc...). Everything done is temporary, but this effect has no time limit.
Transform Other
Cost: 500
Cost to Equip: 1000
Effect: This functions as Transform Self, except it only lasts 1 hour for every 500 points paid. It can be used on anyone the hengeyokai touches who is willing and aware of the effects of this ability. It can only be dispelled by removing the focus, which can be done by either the person who performed the effect or the person who is under effect of the genjutsu.
Transform World
Cost: 1000
Cost to Equip: 2000
Effect: This allows the user to create an illusion either over an area (20 feet by 20 feet) or in the form of a relatively small object (1 foot by 1 foot) or in the form of a fake being of any species (no larger than the caster itself). The illusion lasts 30 minutes. It is under mental control of the user, but cannot be modified beyond the extent of its original form (so a key cannot turn into a watermelon, but it can bend or melt). Weapons and/or beings created through this effect dissapate when they touch any non-illusion surface or substance other than the ground. Area's touched are immediately dispelled.- Seeds:
Format: When equipping Genjutsu, add the name of the seed to the power. So a "Transform World" ability with "Durable" would be listed as "Durable Transform World". If you added "Quickened", it would be "Quickened Durable Transform World". Feel free to rename the genjutsu in character to whatever you want. You may choose to not add seeds to your power when you use them. But they must be equipped. X is chosen when used, if applicable.
Name: Durable
Application: Other, World
Cost: +200x
Cost to Equip: +200
Effect: Multiply the duration of the technique by x. Cannot exceed 1 hour for every 5,000 Chiryoku you have total.
Name: Quickened
Application: Other, Self, World
Cost: +1000
Cost to Equip: +500
Effect: The genjutsu can be used instantly, as though the highest speed kidou available. Almost reflexive.
Name: Extend
Application: World
Cost: +250x
Cost to Equip: +250
Effect: The max range of the technique (if you use area or object) can be multiplied by x.
Name: Sizing
Application: Other, Self
Cost: +500
Cost to Equip: +500
Effect: The technique can increase or decrease the target's size by a significant amount in addition to its other effects.
Name: Reiatsu Altered
Application: Other, Self, World
Cost: +500
Cost to Equip: +500
Effect: The reiatsu of the target (or, in the case of world, reiatsu of the being made) may differ significantly from its original form (beings share your reiatsu signature).
Name: Multiple Being
Application: World
Cost: +500x
Cost to Equip: +500
Effect: You may create X additional beings with your World effect.
Name: Enduring
Application: World
Cost: +x
Cost to Equip: +500
Effect: Your being may touch and manipulate objects (but not harm them any more than dropping...). This can't be used to do damage. If attacked or otherwise injured, they don't dispel until they take double X damage.
Name: Audible
Application: Other, Self, World
Cost: +50
Cost to Equip: +50
Effect: The illusion can make noise.
Name: Scented
Application: Other, Self, World
Cost: +50
Cost to Equip: +50
Effect: The illusion has a smell.
Name: Heated
Application: Other, Self, World
Cost: +50
Cost to Equip: +50
Effect: The illusion produces either heat or cold, as per appropriate for the illusion in question.
Name: Inanimate
Application: Other, Self
Cost: +500
Cost to Equip: +500
Effect: The target can be transformed into a simple inanimate object. Nothing too complex and no firearms. Size restrictions are still in effect (nothing larger than yourself without another seed).
Each ability has a cost to use, cost to equip, prerequisites (either specific abilities or a number of abilities in a particular jutsu), active effect and (optional, but can override active effect) passive effect (i.e. effect when you use it and effect when its equipped). Certain species of hengeyokai get higher or lower prerequisites as well as different effects.
