Katsutoshi Watanabe (Shinigami - Finished) Shinigami

"Who are you...?"

Name: Katsutoshi Watanabe
Age: 153
Gender: Male
Height & Weight: 5'9", 162 lbs
Eye & Hair Color: Katsu has long black hair, which he keeps in a ponytail most of the time. He ties this ponytail with a white headband that flows down to his shoulders. His eyes are interesting, a very distinct color. They are a fusion of red and purple, and they create a very beautiful shade of color.

"I define who I am!"

Appearance:
"Gigai":

"Facial Expressions":

Besides the sleeveless outfit, there are two other things that make Akeuyota stick out. One would be, the color of his hair. Two - his zanpakuto is sheathed behind his back, just like Soifon's. His hair is purple, which makes him stick out - therefore he is teased for this. The teasing would also be fuel for his fights, which may be the reason he began fighting in the first place. And as for the sheathe being on the back - he feels it is easier to keep the sheathe away from your legs, or waist, in combat - which allows much more movement.

One of the many things that people notice about him, almost daily, is his physical condition. To most people, from afar, he looks like a very tall, scrawny man; but this is not the case, by any means. Even though he appears very small, he actually just has very toned, compressed muscles; which also conceals them, giving him the appearance of no muscular features. In his line of work, he has to have compact muscles which would keep from hindering his ability to move quick and execute actions.

"Full Body":

"Sleeveless Shikaushyou":

"Pony Tail and Fight Stance/Normal Kimono":

"... And my actions define me!"

Personality Traits:
Positive -

  • Katsutoshi believes in leaving no one behind, and will stop at nothing to help those that are in need of help, whether it be combat help, cooking, cleaning and etc.
  • Bravery comes naturally to him, he always had to be brave (More so after the death of his parents). He never even flinches in the face of any hollow or Menos, but with the Vasto Lordes he is more likely to be less brave and more timid.
  • Katsu has some pretty great ideas flowing around in his head, which would credit his reputation as a creative thinker. Most of the time though, these ideas are unorthodox and unrealistic, which make people unsure of his thoughts.
  • Kat has been known to be rather compassionate. Which would mean he understands and respects someones needs and concerns by listening well and making an effort to see issues from their point of view.
  • Even in the most dangerous and hectic of times, Katsutoshi manages to remain calm. This keeps his thoughts cool and collected in battle, and not strewn about - keeping him from focusing on the task at hand.

Negative -

  • He loves to fight, but there is always the fear of battle - in the back of his mind. He is always terrified that he may die, but without that thought, he would be very arrogant.
  • Kat is to brave for his own good. This gets him in a ton of trouble because he will mouth off to someone way more powerful than him, and still keep his sense of bravery.
  • In a battle, he has the ability to look past his feelings. He would do anything that it takes to win, and will begin to ignore love, or an ally in a fight - and do whatever he needs to. This makes him overlook what is important, friends, family and civilians.
  • He never strays from the path of his allies, he always is by them - no matter the circumstances. Got an order to give, but another minion won't do it? Call him up, he will do it as long as you are on his side - to prove his "hardcore" loyalty. This is bad, due to the fact that he would instantly take the chance to die to save someone, as opposed to thinking the situation over.
  • He is always thinking people are going to leave him, or people are always wanting to hurt him. This usually keeps people away, because it is pretty difficult to be friends with someone that always thinks you are out to get them. This paranoia causes him to lose a lot of people near to him, mainly friends.

"You caught me in a Mono-log!"

Additional information: Katsu has an interesting colored reiatsu. He has yet to see anyone else with the same as him, but his happens to be black. The black matches his hair, and it flows sloppy - showing that he is still in the process of controlling his powers. Unlike an aura that surrounds the person, Kat's violently lashes out around him - keeping no form to his body like most reiatsu. Around the edge of the aura is a thin white line, which would be an outline of his power - that is attempting to keep it in check, and make it flow properly.

"You will be punished!"

Zanpakuto Spirit & Inner World: Akimitsu was once regarded as a very powerful samurai, until he decided he was unfit for combat. Well that is sort of what he believes happened, and how he may have been put into Katsu's zanpakuto. Akimitsu is very wise, both in aspects of combat and overall knowledge - making him a great asset for someone trying to "find" themselves and someone that is involved in a ton of combat. Aki is much like any normal person, with the exception of a bloody background and the capability to destroy you in a single swing of his odachi. He is like a father figure to Katsutoshi, even though he can't be seen - and is regarded as his owners "superior."

The samurai has very few things he doesn't appreciate, or dislikes/likes. He enjoys seeing Kat progress towards the role of a captain or lieutenant, and seeing his power become something otherworldly. However, he hates to see that Katsu can sometimes become quite arrogant and get his ass kicked, not even showing the ability that he has - and rushes in without even requesting Akimitsu's assistance. He absolutely loves the fact that Katsu strives to obtain power, and supports him one-hundred percent, and will do anything in his power to help him achieve such a feat.

Akimitsu is also rather confusing sometimes, to Kat at least. From his years of being around, he has become wise - and has began using wise sayings, and riddles. None of these really click with Katsu, because they are from around times that were far before his time of being alive. But that is part of the bond between Akimitsu and Kat is not just on a combat and spiritual base, it is also on a knowledgeable base. They teach each other, and in turn they both benefit from being together - and even grow stronger together.

"Akimitsu":

The world that Akimitsu resides in is a house, covered in mirrors. These mirrors are more for symbolism, as opposed to decoration. Mirrors like this reflect the past actions you have made, and in this case - everything done by Katsu and Akimitsu in their lives. This inner world is allows judgement from another power - the actions that they have made, therefore if the actions of Katsutoshi are that of a wicked man, Akimitsu will refuse to help him.

Other than the mirrors it is a pretty regular house, with stone floors. The upkeep looks like it has been forgotten in the house, so it comes across more or less "ancient." So weeds grow through the stones, and fungus grows near the mirrors - but allows even the faintest sound of animals and insects through. This makes the inner world a perfect place, a tranquil sanctuary.

"Inner World":

Sealed Zanpakuto: There is nothing extremely special about his zanpakuto. It has a standard wooden saya, that is black. The top of the saya has a golden ring around it with a brown ribbon attached to the end of it, through a hoop. The tsuba itself is an odd shape, in the sense that it is completely different than any other katana - it is unique. It twists at both ends, sort of like a golden wave, with balls at the end of it, each wave is going an opposite way though. The handle has brown thread rapped around it, and exposes a small diamond pattern up to the tsuba. The diamonds themselves are silver, due to the wood being stained during the process of forging.

"Sealed":

Shikai Zanpakuto: Upon release, Katsu's blade transforms from a standard katana to a blade that is as small as a dagger. The handle itself has been made golden, to show its importance and 'value.' At the end of the handle, at the base, is the head of a dragon - which resembles Katsu's 'fiery spirit.' The handle has some black wood sections that have been divided by the gold, but comes to the hilt - which is the shape of a five pronged dragon claw. Behind that is the toe claw of a dragon, making that area the perfect fit for a hand (to wield). The blade itself is 10 inches and extends outward, but curves somewhat. It is made out of obsidian on the inside, giving it a black appearance, but is trimmed on the outside with silver.

Another addition to the appearance would be the texture of the blade itself. When shikai is activated, the blade is no longer steel or any material that is common for a swords blade. The material revolves directly around the ability that his shikai introduces, sand. His zanpakuto becomes encrusted with sand, making the blade a little heavier - but allows it to do more damage. Damage being the fact that it can cut through certain objects much more easily now.

"Released":

Shikai Ability: Akimitsu’s shikai power is the ability to convert Katsu’s spiritual energy into sand. While certain techniques, not yet known to him, can do so much more, the basic ability is as follows.

Katsutoshi channels spiritual energy into his zanpakuto, and releases it all in the form of hundreds of shards of sand. The sand shards are small and sharp, scattering outwards as they head towards the opponent, resembling a cone shape as they spread. The further away the opponent, the harder it is to hit them, as the shardss disperse too far away from each other to seriously damage an enemy at range.

"Are you the one from my past?"

Background: In The Beginning

Katsutoshi Watanabe was born to the parents, Shinji Watanabe and Aiko Watanabe. Technically he was a normal child, healthy baby boy, but there was something "special" about him. Kat was born with a rather impressive spiritual pressure for a baby, and that was renowned in the community. Things like that would get him special treatment from all the females in the community, young and old, and respect from the elders and younger males. The only people that actually didn't give him special treatment, in the sense that things were handed straight to him, were the men of the area. They could have cared less if he was powerful, he had to earn his way like anyone else.Katsu was about a year and a half old when he began to talk, and walk - which from certain studies, is pretty damn impressive. As soon as he could do these things, he began to "train" to learn to read. Most of the things he was forced to read were to greatly increase his vocabulary and to make his mind a force to be reckoned with. At that age, the brain is like duct tape, so anything that the child learns - usually sticks with them. Kat's parents intentions were to have him reading and thinking at a high school level, when he was merely a child. Of course in a normal household, that wouldn't even be a thought for a brand new, adorable baby - but the Watanabe's were not about to just let their child pass up on this potential learning period.

Knowledge Is Power

Katsutoshi may still be young, but in his parents eyes he was an adult - and needed to be treated as one. Even if he was still an infant, he needed to take control of the opportunity to learn things at a young age, and keep them stored for later usage. He was always told one thing,"Katsutoshi, you may only be two years old, but at this stage - your mind is like a sponge. If we teach you everything that we possibly can in the few years that your mind remains like this, you will grow up to be a very intellectual man. We love you very much, and we only want the best for you - therefore we push you beyond the limits we know a normal child is capable of. You are a Watanabe though, therefore you have so much potential! So please, prove that the Watanabe clan is great, and that our son will eventually grow to be the greatest captain in all of the Gotei 13!"One thing that Kat noticed, even at this age - his father was good at sweet talking, and getting someone to do something. Of course he would do anything his parents wished, for they brought him into the world, and without choices being made for him at a younger age - he would have no order to his life later on. His father had also informed him that the next year of his life would be full of non-stop studying, and a ton of reading - so he better prepare for it. This was hard for Kat to understand, because he had just learned to read, but within a few months he was supposed to prepare for reading that was at a possible high school level of skill.

March 3, 1861: Learning Literature

A few months late on getting started with his learning, but he was diving into it like a pro. First up, was literature - both ancient and modern. The basics first, who was William Shakespeare, and where was he born? This was pretty easy stuff, Katsu was pretty sure he would dominate it within a week, rather than the allotted time his father had given him. He learned when Shakespeare was baptized (April 26, 1564) and when he died (April 23, 1616). After basically reading Shakespeare's entire bio, Katsutoshi moved onto his works. To start things off, he was given a work from each genre that Shakespeare had written. Here were the works he was required to read:The Two Gentlemen of Verona, which was a comedy, King John, which was a history, Anthony and Cleopatra, which was a tragedy; Venus and Adonis, which were a collection of poems, and Arden of Faversham which was an Apocrypha.He was quizzed on each of the works, and to his fathers surprise, got a perfect on each quiz. It would assume that he had a photographic memory, which was not the case - he was just able to retain a lot of the information, because he was warned that he might have to memorize things. Seeing as he was only a child still, his parents allowed him some downtime after the first session of studying, so he could relax. The "break" didn't really matter because he wasn't going to take it, next up was math - and he wanted to be prepared for it.

March 20, 1861: Learning Advanced Math

Seeing as Katsu had ignored the break he was given after the literature section of his studying, he was more than prepared for the math. His father had already explained to him what would be in this section. It would include: Algebra, Calculus, Geometry/Trigonometry, and Physics. Of course he had to learn the basics of each, before even attempting to dive further into the different branches.Cosine, Sine, and Tangent all came naturally to him, therefore Geometry and Trig were a breeze. Algebra was easy as well, the Pythagorean Theorem was easy enough, and learning differentials and about using different angles to figure out equations wasn't that bad either. Calculus and its number crunching was rather easy as well, even though it was hell for most people. Katsutoshi hadn't really known anything thus far, except that he had to study - and that he actually kind of liked it. The only part of his mathematics studies that were "somewhat" difficult, the Physics portion. That was hard for people, and learning all the equations and how to use them, and then all the theorems. It was very difficult, and he barely scraped by on learning any of it.It was time for his father to quiz him, and he was expecting his son to fail, yet again. After grading his sons tests, he realized something - his son always made higher scores than him. Perfects in every category, with the exception of physics, which would still be considered an A in the grading system. This was truly interesting, a little boy that wasn't even old enough to go into proper school - and he was smarter than most of the adults of the Realm of the Living. After the testing period was over, he was allowed some more time to rest, this period was longer than the others - and this time, he decided to take the opportunity to rest.

April 27, 1861: Learning Fighting Techniques/Styles

Katsutoshi was granted a little bit over a month to rest before training anymore. This time he was going to actually be required to be physical. The past tests had been all knowledge based, and were rather easy, but in this case - he would need to learn how to fight, and then defeat his father in a match. It would be somewhat difficult, but nothing Katsutoshi didn't think he could handle - he was up for any form of "game. "First off were the basics, how to properly throw a punch, how to kick, and how to use weapons to your advantage. He didn't train alongside his father though, he was forced to train with a man that had mastered the art of hand-to-hand fighting combat. Naturally the only way to get very good at something is to train with someone that has already mastered said skill. Even though Kat was a child, this man did not hesitate to give him his full power. At the end of the training sessions, Katsu would come out bruised, bloodied, and more of a man each time. Easily by the third day, there was already a noticeable enough improvement in the way he fought, and the way his muscles appeared. Kicking and punching - the basics of fighting, were now easily performed by Katsutoshi, with grace and extreme power.Using weapons to his advantage was the last bit of his training, which didn't seem that hard. He couldn't have been any further from the truth at this point. Brass knuckles to the face, that was very painful; a sword to the arm, was also painful. He was taught to become at least an amateur with each style of weapon: nun-chucks, swords, knives, clubs, and even axes. After a little more time, he learned to dominate with weapons, and could even get his teacher on the ground - a blade to his neck, and force him to surrender.In this section of his training, there was no real test, that was at least pointed out to him. The test was kept a secret from him, and he had literally just completed it. If Katsu could get his teacher on his back, and get a surrender from him - then he passed. He did just that, so without even fighting his father - he passed and was on to the next section. As before, he was allowed a break - and this time he took it yet again, he decided he needed to rest and study. He was tricked though, this was the end of his training, which was explained to him later.

To Have A Dream

When Katsutoshi was growing up he always wanted to be a Soul Reaper, because he had read so many interesting things about them. His father had been a member of squad two, and he wanted to follow suit. In a conversation he had with Mr. Watanabe, Katsu even said, "Father I would like to join the ranks of the Shinigami, more specifically the ranks of Squad 2. Not that I would like a rank of high power.... just to be in the ranks, and to be part of something greater." His father always loved him very much, not just because he was an excellent child, (avoiding all troublesome activities, and never talking back to his parents) but for his attitude. He was not set on being the best, or worst, he just wanted to be in the group - and take part in something "greater."

The Academy Days

While Katsu was enrolled in the Shinōreijutsuin, his parents were murdered by a Vasto Lorde. They had gone on a routine mission (back when these were permitted) to Hueco Muendo, to destroy the source of the higher powered hollows. Without knowledge of the Vasto Lordes, Aiko and Shinji were eliminated. The idea of the Vasto Lordes struck fear into Katsu anyway, but now that they had killed his parents, he was absolutely terrified of them. With the goal of avenging his parents in mind, he began to train non-stop, and very diligently. When he graduated from the academy, he was offered a 5th seat in Squad 2, but turned it down - saying "That makes me look like I have just shot to the top, because my father was in this Squad. Please don't make me hated by the others, if you wish to give me a seat; give me one that is not too high but not too low either."At first it was assumed that Katsutoshi had no shikai, just like Captain Zenpachi. With no ability to call it to battle, everyone was sure he would just be another brute. Until he was assigned a mission with two other squad members, in the world of the living. Several Menos had been spotted in Karakura town, and seeing as the new recruits had no experience yet, the captain deemed this the appropriate task for them.Now that he had graduated the academy, Katsu decided he would spend more time studying. For years he sat and studied, ignoring any form of social activity with anyone but his squad mates. Drinking heavily to "help" with his depression, and sitting back and reading - that is how he spent his time. Occasionally he would stop reading, and stop drinking - long enough to get some crazy workouts in. Over the next few years he would become, more intelligent, faster, stronger, and lonelier.

Katsutoshi laid on the ground under a great Oak tree, and began to nod off. As he was falling asleep, he began to remember his first encounter with a Vasto Lorde."Watch out!" Cried the tall dark haired squad mate, as four cero were fired directly at Katsutoshi. Katsutoshi jumped, with grace out of the radius of the blasts, and regrouped with the other two squad members."Okay Blondie, you go left and try to flank the Menos. Trust me on this, we won't let you die." said Katsutoshi."I hope your right...." mumbled the Blond recruit."And you - I need you to flank the right, and the same goes for you - I won't let you die, but don't let that promise go to your head. You need to still attempt to stay alive.""Gotcha "mini-cap'n." said the Dark haired recruit as he ran off."Now lets hope we can do this - I pray we can." Katsutoshi said, as he took a breath. "Father, Mother, Please help me. I need your guidance, and I love you both dearly."With the boost of confidence of his prayer to his parents, he began to stretch. If he was going to execute his plan, he was going to have to come up with a brutal attack down the middle, while his squad mates flanked the right and left.The next few moments of this fight were a blur, each Shinigami had been thrown backward, into a pile. An intense spiritual pressure had just come out of nowhere, and the Menos had disappeared. As Katsu lay there, he realized he was going up against something he feared the most, a Vasto Lorde. Both squad mates were injured beyond the healing kido that he knew, so he was going to have to fight the Vasto Lorde, or attempt to fight it, on his own. He stood there facing the beast, shaking uncontrollably. "Why did it have to be this? Why... my parents couldn't even defeat one, together much less -." He stopped mid-sentence. And shook all doubt out of his head, he immediately began to start thinking he could win this fight."Look here, y-you monster. I won't let you wreak any havoc here... I will destroy you and you will not destroy Karakura Town." he said, with worry in his voice. He had just boasted something he knew that he would not be able to accomplish.Very nervously he drew his katana, and when he got into a proper stance for combat, he heard a voice. He could not see where the voice came from, and he did not recognize it - but he knew it had to be important. "Katsutoshi. You are getting yourself into some deep shit, so I figured I would help you out." said the mysterious voice."Who are you? I recognize your voice slightly, but it seems like it was only in a dream...." Katsu said. The engraving on the blade began to glow, and something took over Katsutoshi, that was not himself."Call me out Katsutoshi, allow me to make you prevail in battle. I am Za Infanarubisutto, I have watched you grow from this sword for a very long time Katsu. I can be your ticket to being respected in the Soul Society, and be the ticket to your excellence in battle." said Infanarubisutto. "Just utter the words, 'Dete kuruto shōhi, Za Infanarubisutto, and I will come help you."Unsure of what had really just happened, Katsu looked at his katana and sighed. "Dete kuruto shōhi, Za Infanarubisutto!" With that lava began to flow around him, and ignoring the theatrics of his abilities, Katsutoshi charged at the Vasto Lorde.The Vasto Lorde simply chuckled and took him on. The two crashed together and Katsutoshi (being the weaker of the two) flew backwards a good few hundred yards. Before he realized what had happened, the Vasto Lorde was kicking him around like a volley ball. As he was being pummeled by his worst fear, he realized that if he doesn't fight back - he will be letting down his parents.A fist came at Katsu with intense speed, and he reached out and grabbed the arm. The next thing Katsu knows is that he has a sharp pain in his abdomen, and falls quickly to the ground. The Vasto Lorde did not like the fact that Katsu had stopped his attack, so he simply stabbed Katsutoshi in the stomach, so he could not block anymore attacks. Katsutoshi began to lose consciousness. The next thing Katsutoshi remembers is waking up in the hospital - next to the two recruits he had fought along side of. And he looked down to see a scar on his chest, he realized had already did something his parents did not - He survived a Vasto Lorde attack.Katsutoshi woke up, the scar on his chest began to throb. He hit the Oak tree he was laying under, and began to cry. He had let down his parents by not destroying a Vasto Lorde, and he had let himself down.
